Your New Workplace

The Urban Planning Office is one of eight departments within Sundsvall Municipality where we together create conditions for attractive and growing living environments with a focus on the future and a glance in the rearview mirror.

The department plays an important role in increasing the municipality's development and attractiveness. The street and park department's park section is a vital part of this. By maintaining and managing Sundsvall Municipality's parks and natural areas, playgrounds, you contribute to creating good living environments for both people and nature. The section is also responsible for the development of green and recreational environments in the municipality.

We have 14 permanent employees in the section, and during the summer season, the workforce grows with seasonal employees, student interns, and summer workers.

Your Contribution as a Park Worker

You will be part of a workgroup with eight permanent colleagues and about 20 seasonal workers during the summer as well as summer jobbers. The work varies with the seasons, with a focus during the summer on tree felling in urban environments and in forests and natural areas, thinning and clearing of forests and natural areas. Risk tree assessments, sectional felling from a lift, arborist work in tree crowns. Handle reports of issues and other case management from the public.

In winter, the main tasks are forestry work in built-up areas, pruning work, and renovation of park equipment. The work involves using chainsaws and other machinery.

The job includes supervising seasonal workers and summer jobbers. Gardening and forestry work are physically demanding, so good physical fitness is required.

Your Skills and Experience

Applicants should have relevant gardening education, forestry education, and/or professional certification. You have experience in practical forestry and tree work in recent years as well as experience in pruning and tree planting. It is advantageous if you have arborist training or two years of experience as a climbing arborist. Experience as a groundman in arborist work and climbing and rope experience is also desirable.

Furthermore, you have good knowledge of the Office suite and are quick to learn other systems. You have a B driver's license and good knowledge of Swedish in both speech and writing, with good knowledge of English being an advantage.

We prefer that your professional knowledge is documented through, for example:

  • ETW, ISA, and/or TRAQ certification.
  • Chainsaw certificate ABC.
  • TCYK certification in the green sector deemed relevant by the employer.
  • Lift training.

As a park worker with a focus on forestry, you have specialized knowledge in the maintenance of parks and green areas. You work creatively and solution-oriented, have good collaboration skills, and are flexible in your work approach. With a service-oriented and professional attitude, you contribute to safe, well-maintained, and pleasant outdoor environments for the municipality's residents.
